Our Students Learn as Global Citizens

Teacher Michelle McMillan and a group of 13 students from Carberry Collegiate and Neepawa Area Collegiate travelled to Ecuador in July of 2009 through Free the Children’s travel group MetoWe. The group helped build a high school in San Miguel and an elementary classroom in Shuid, both in the Chimborazo province. It was a fantastic experience! Students got to see a completely different culture and way of life. They helped create educational opportunities where they did not exist before. They enjoyed meeting the people, trying their Spanish skills, and working together with the community members. The work was very hard at times, but also very rewarding.

The students did have the chance to spend our first day in Quito, the capital city, as tourists. The last three days of the trip were spent in the Amazon doing leadership training.

The work was hard, but really worth it Carberry students One of the projects Students working along side local students
